We do delicate handiwork to get closer to our ideals

The main ingredient for incense is ‘tabu powder’, from the powdered bark of the Machillus Thunbergii tree (‘tabu no ki’), which has adhesive properties and burns slowly. The powder is kneaded with water to make clay, then blended with fragrant wood for the aroma, and dye is added for color.

The properties of the powder change with every slight detail. To get close to my ideal end product, I have to repeat this process over and over.

The powder mixing process causes powder to disperse, so it is carried out on a separate floor.

INCENSE

The Awaji Island of Japan is the prominent birthplace of numerous incenses since around the 1840’s, when the winds blowing from the West and the climate of Awaji Ichinomiya district was discovered to be ideal for incense making. We’ve selected five soothing scents straight from Awaji Island, where 70% of incense production takes place.

MATCH

Our matches are not only used in Japan but are exported globally, including Europe and the United States. As Hyogo prefecture’s local industry, between 70-80% of Japan-made matches are created in Harima. We’ve designed elegant white and black matches for simple usage.

An assortment box where you can enjoy various scents with a small amount. Weaving standard scents and herbal scents, we set four themes, "Sweetness," "Relax," "Calm," and "Happiness," to suit your mood and scene. It is also recommended for those who are starting incense and as a gift.

Minami Awaji is known for producing “awajigawara”, a type of Japanese roof tiles made of clay. Awajigawara is known for its oxidized silver look, created with the use of not only hands but items such as wooden or gold spatulas while scraping and adding clay for several days. Kawara artisans spend an immense amount of time creating the “kawara”, giving the finished piece its sophisticated, oxidized silver look.
